A Prayer for Your Finances This Year
Beginning the year with peace, purpose, and trust in God’s provision
As a new year begins, many of us feel thepull to reset and refocus. We write goals, build budgets, and dream about whatcould be different this time. For some, the start of a new year brings freshmotivation. For others, it feels heavy with uncertainty. But no matter howyou’re entering this new season, whether with hope, hesitation, or a little ofboth, you don’t have to carry the weight of it alone.
The most powerful way to begin the yearisn’t with pressure, but with prayer.
God invites us to bring every detail ofour lives before Him, including our finances. From daily needs to long-termdreams, He sees it all. And more than that, He cares. Not just about what wehave or don’t have, but about how we steward what He’s given us, how we trustHim in the process, and how we grow in peace along the way.
Proverbs 16:3 offers this encouragement:“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” There’sfreedom in knowing we don’t have to figure everything out on our own. We’recalled to plan wisely, yes—but we’re also called to trust deeply.
As you step into this year, considerpausing to offer a prayer for your finances. Let this be a starting place forsurrender, trust, and vision:
Lord,
Thank You for being my Provider yesterday, today, and in the year ahead. Isurrender every financial concern, goal, and decision to You. I confess theways I’ve tried to control outcomes or carried anxiety in silence. Help me totrust that You see the full picture and that You are faithful to meet every need.
Give me wisdom to steward what I havewith intention. Help me live with generosity, margin, and peace. Teach me togive cheerfully, save diligently, and spend wisely. Guard my heart from fear, comparison, and pressure, and lead me into rhythms of grace.
When the numbers feel tight or plansfall through, remind me that You are near. Let peace guard my heart and mind,as Your Word promises in Philippians 4:6–7. Help me seek first Your kingdom andto walk by faith, not fear.
This year, I commit my finances toYou, not just as a budget, but as an act of worship. Use what You’ve given mefor Your purposes. Make me faithful in small things. And through every high andlow, remind me that my security is not in a number. It’s in You.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
